Ghost job checker
kery.io estimates ghost-job risk (High, Medium or Low) from a listing's age, reposts, closed status and related postings. It works on jobs you save to your free dashboard from LinkedIn, Seek, Indeed and other boards. It cannot prove a job is fake.
A ghost job is a public listing that is not a genuine, active hire, or that has little real chance of one. You cannot prove that from an ad alone. kery.io estimates ghost-job risk (High, Medium or Low) from listing history it can verify, then you decide whether the role is worth applying to. That includes Seek listings you paste, and LinkedIn or Indeed listings you save with the extension.
This is not a database of fake employers and not a claim of accuracy percentages. It is a posting-history check on jobs you add to your application tracker. For Seek specifically, see how to spot ghost jobs on Seek. Method: methodology. Boards: supported sites.
Ghost job, expired ad, repost, or long-running vacancy?
- Ghost job: a listing that stays up with little intent to hire, or that exists mainly to collect CVs, look busy, or keep a talent pool warm. Public sources describe this pattern; they also note there are no official counts. See the guide.
- Expired or closed listing: the board says the role is not accepting applications. That is a status, not proof of motive.
- Repost: the same job is put back up, or the visible “posted” date resets, after an earlier cycle. LinkedIn date refreshes are not always a new vacancy.
- Legitimate long-running vacancy: some roles stay open because hiring is slow, the bar is high, or the employer hires more than one person. Age alone does not make a ghost job.
Signals kery.io actually evaluates
When you save a job with a public link, the dashboard can look at:
- How long the listing appears to have been up (first seen date, where verified).
- Whether there are distinct repost cycles, not just a refreshed LinkedIn date stamp.
- Whether the listing is closed or not currently accepting applications.
- Whether the same company and title appear as other specific job URLs in the same country.
- How much verified posting history was available (evidence quality).
kery.io does not read employer inboxes, applicant volumes, or internal ATS stages. If those sources are missing, it does not invent them.
How the risk score works
- Low: little or no verified repost history, and the ad does not look long-stale on what we can see.
- Medium: the role has been open a long time, history is limited, or there are weaker reuse signals without a clear repost pattern.
- High: several verified reposts, or a long-open role that has also been put back up.
Known limits: LinkedIn can reset the visible posted date on the same job ID. Other job boards can show older copies of the same title. kery.io tries not to count those as extra ads for this listing. Scores can be wrong. An interview last week can still sit on a Medium or High listing if the ad is old.
Worked example (sample data)
Role: Marketing Operations Manager at Example Staffing Co.
Board: LinkedIn (sample job ID 000000000)
First seen: 15 Apr 2026 on LinkedIn · advertised about 180 days so far (still active)
Current LinkedIn date: 27 Sep 2026 · visible about 14 days (date refresh, not a second posting)
Confirmed reposts: 0
Ghost-job risk: Medium: long-running listing, no verified repost
If this were a real row, High would usually need verified reposts or a closed ad plus other same-role listings. An interview would not be impossible on this pattern.
How to run the check
- Create a free kery.io account.
- Open the Live Dashboard and add the job (paste the link, or save it with the Chrome extension on LinkedIn or Indeed).
- Read Ghost job risk, Job repost detection, and Investigation findings together. They should tell one story.
- If the listing still looks useful, run Fit Check before you spend time on a tailored application.
Questions people ask
How can I check whether a job is a ghost job?
You cannot prove it from public ads alone. Use posting history (age, reposts, closed status, other boards), then try to confirm with the employer. kery.io automates the history part for jobs in your dashboard.
Is there a free ghost-job checker?
Yes, on the free kery.io plan, inside the Live Dashboard, subject to weekly Full Application Analysis limits.
Does High risk mean I should not apply?
It means allocate time carefully. Some High or Medium listings still hire. Some Low listings never reply. Use the score with Fit Check and your own contact with the company.
Can kery.io see inside a company’s hiring system?
No. It does not access employer ATSs, applicant counts, or private hiring decisions.
