Interview Lessons · March 2026 · Applied
Wanted to apply to Datadog as I like dogs and data so having both in the name sounded great. Also the job looked interesting. As the job ad on LinkedIn mentioned the hiring manager’s name I reached out and we connected. Advised I applied asked to have a quick look at my LinkedIn profile and let me know before I apply as don’t want to waste their time if I am not suitable. Hiring manager got back to me the next day stating that I look like I would be too senior for this role and can recommend HR connections to help me with my job search if I would like to. This was the most professional feedback I got from any hiring manager I reached out on LinkedIn about jobs. And even though I did not apply based on the feedback the positive interaction will be remembered forever and I will always have respect to this particular hiring manager the way the situation was handled on a human level.
